The Entertainment industry brought to you by Nollywood is actually famous for all the right reasons. Apart from what seems to be mere entertainment, movies and series actually present us with scenarios that we can all learn from.

Here are three important relationship lessons and considerations that we can imbibe from Nollywood:

Love is Abstract

To love someone deeply means that you fall in love with their innermost person and appreciate them wholeheartedly regardless of their physical appearance.

This point is clearly manifested by Ndani TV’s Skinny Girl in Transit series, starring Lagos’ favourite fictional couple- Mide and Tiwa.

Played by Ayo Ayolola and Abimbola Craig respectively, the couple has shown that no matter what you look like, there is someone who will love you just the way you are.

Is Your Partner Looking For A Come Up?

Get to know the person you are dating reasonably well before fully committing and entering a serious relationship with him or her. Understand their motives and ambitions in life to be sure that they match yours. Compatibility is always key.

Recall that in Sugar Rush, Tobi Bakre’s role was centred on the cool guy that was always the life of the party.  He was even accosted for owing someone money but his lover, played by Bisola Aiyeola’s character bailed him out earlier on in the movie.

He also ended up stealing the supposed “sugar” (stolen money) in the movie and ended up being hit by a bus during the rush to get this money back by the ladies of Sugar Rush.

A Man Will Stand Up For The Woman He Loves

A man who has made the decision to be with you for the rest of his life will not just say it, he will show it. This means that he may have to beat all odds coming from third parties like family, friends, acquaintances and even exes, to prove his love and commitment to you.

This is particularly shown in The Wedding Party by the characters played by Banky Wellington and Adesua Etomi. She played the classic girl next door role from a different background and wasn’t liked by the groom’s mother at first. However, Banky W’s character pushed for a successful relationship and ultimately, a wedding despite drama from his family and even an ex.

Remember when next you sit down to watch a Nollywood production, watch out for the hidden gems because they always matter!
