Preparing for a wedding is not a day's job neither is it a month's job and it is no child's play that is why many couples get stressed and edgy on their big day when things do not go as they want. As overwhelming as planning your wedding might get, here are 10 things to do when the day draws closer.

  • Take enough time from work: A lot of people take the time off from work just a day or 2 to the wedding which is a big no-no because just thinking of the wedding is enough stress how much more adding work to it. You can decide to take your annual leave around that period or simply request for a leave a week before your wedding.

  • Test your outfit: You have to test your outfit as you will wear it on the wedding day. Do not rely on any friend except that friend is Jesus. Do not be in Lagos and expect a friend from Kaduna to bring your shoes 3 days to the wedding. All you will be doing is putting your heart in your mouth. To avoid mental stress and heartbreak, you can have your friends bring them a month or weeks before for you to test them and see that it fits perfectly.

  • Designate people: You cannot do it all by yourself, you have to assign people (especially your most trusted family and friends) to different duties to take the load off your shoulders a bit.

  • Plan a rehearsal: It might be western but it makes sense, nobody is asking you to do a full wedding party before the main party but just something close will make lots of sense and put your mind at ease.

  • Your vows: It’s important to write your vows and if you have started them, finish them.

  • Be organized: Put everything in order and easily accessible for you such as contact list, guest list etc.
  • Book self-care appointments: Make sure to book appointments at the spa, at a yoga or meditation class, at the physician and also at the dentist because you are going to be smiling a lot.

  • Do not change your routine: Just because you are getting married does not mean you should change any of your skin, hair, health routine. Just because it works for another bride or groom does not mean it will work for you.

  • Stay hydrated: Make sure to always have a bottle of water with you everywhere especially when you go for your endless photo sessions and rehearsals.

  • Get enough sleep: Most important of all is for you to get a great dose of good soul mending sleep!
