The maid of honour plays a very important role in the wedding party. She is usually the bride’s sister or her closest female friend.

That being said, being a maid of honour is as tasking as it is exciting. There are lots of duties and tasks to take care of both before the wedding and at the wedding.

Some of such tasks are:

Planning the Bridal Shower and Bachelorette

The maid of honour is tasked with planning both the bridal shower and bachelorette party. Since she knows the bride best, it makes sense why she should be the one to do this. She has the responsibility of making sure that both events go as smoothly as possible.

Resolve Conflicts Among Bridesmaids Before The Wedding Day

The maid of honour can be said to be in charge of the other bridesmaids so to say. As such, she has to resolve conflicts that may arise between the bridesmaids before and during the wedding.

Be the Bride’s Right-hand Woman on Her Big Day

The maid of honour is, in essence, the bride’s right-hand woman. She, therefore, has to be on hand to help the bride with her requests and needs during the day. These needs include going with her on bathroom breaks, resolving crises that arise on the wedding without alarming or distressing the bride, etc.

Help with Decision Making e.g dress, makeup inspiration

The maid of honour also has the duty of helping the bride to make decisions and make conclusions before the big day. these decisions include the choice of outfit for the bridesmaids, going dress shopping with the bride and helping her select the perfect dress, etc.

She must save the bride as much stress as she can.

Sign the Marriage Certificate

Along with the best man, the maid of honour has to sign the marriage certificate. They serve as witnesses to the marriage.

Help keep the Bridal Party Organized

The maid of honour also has to help keep the bridal party organized and keep them in line. This includes making sure that the bridesmaids don’t overindulge alcohol, making sure that under-aged bridesmaids don’t drink, those fights don’t break out among the bridesmaid or among the wedding party, and de-escalating conflicts.

While the role of a maid of honour is a very important one that shouldn’t be treated with levity, you shouldn’t forget to enjoy yourself at the wedding.
