It is true that many people are in long-distance relationships. If you belong to the bandwagon of people who think relationships such as these are absurd,  you might want to think twice.

A long-distance relationship can be ‘sweet in the middle’ as long as you put in efforts to make it work.

Speaking of efforts, there are certain dos and don’ts you need to adhere to in order to ensure a long, fruitful relationship.

Here are some of them:

  1. Communicate

What’s a relationship without communication? Effective communication is the bedrock of every working relationship. You might underestimate it but a simple good morning text can suffice.

It’s okay to be busy but you should take time out to call your partner at least once a day. Texting is fun too if you can’t call. Just do it.

Whatever your mood is, communicate your feelings with your partner. It breeds more understanding.

  1. Be Sincere

Honestly, long-distance relationships come with their challenges. Trust-issues are one of them. Due to the distance, your partner can’t really monitor what you do. Therefore, we need to be open about your activities.

Do not give your partner any cause to doubt you.

If you’re feeling some type of way, tell it to your partner. Talk things over and see where it’ll lead you.

  1. Put efforts

Saying the habitual “I love you” isn’t enough. Your actions need to show that you love your partner. You can send gifts occasionally. You can even plan a surprise visit regardless of the distance.

Whenever your partner needs motivation, be the source. Let him or her know it’ll be okay and they’ve got your full support.

  1. Don’t be unwilling to change

There are certain sacrifices you need to make for a long-distance relationship to work. You should be open to change and make those sacrifices.

If you’re a lazy texter, now’s the time to up your interest in texting.

Just make a change that’ll impact your relationship positively.

  1. Don’t Give In To Doubts

It’s quite understandable if you harbour some doubts. It only shows your human side. However, you need to guard against letting these doubts overwhelm you. When questions like “will this work?” comes up, answer yourself with “It will work.”

Self-assurance is key. Don’t let other people’s horror stories deter your relationship from working.
