Despite the medical warning about exposure of the skin to the sun, many of us still expose our skin to the sun. This is quite understandable because of the situation of our climate condition in Africa. However, one can still try to reduce the skin exposure to the sun.

Sunburn is the reddening, inflammation due to over exposure of the skin to ultraviolet rays of the sun. It usually cause the skin to become red, sore and occasionally itchy.

Sunburn can present itself so harmless because it is for a short while and mild. Sunburn can lead to serious health problem like skin cancer in the future if not properly treated. The next question should be “how can it be treated”? I have below 6 home remedies for sunburn.

The major thing to do is to try to avoid the sun, in order not to make the situation worse. Get indoor or stay in a shady place.

  • Cool water: Get cool water, deep a clean cloth into the liquid and lay the cloth on the burn. Keep it on the burn for 10 to 15 minutes. Repeat that exercise several times. In addition, never use ice block on the sunburn because it restrict the blood from flowing well and might damage the tissue rather use cool water.

  • Apply honey on the skin burn: It helps to relieve the pain, reduce the burn and helps the skin to recover. It prevents your skin from getting infected and also fights against bacteria and infection.

  • Coconut oil: This oil has been known for various amazing benefits. One of those benefits is that it helps the skin to recover from any kind of wound or scar by applying the oil on the skin. Coconut oil contains vitamin E which helps fight against infection.

  • Milk: Soak the burn inside milk and leave it for 10-15 minutes. This will help the healing of the skin. It also soothes the burn.

  • Aloe Vera: Over the years, it has been known for soothing and cooling relieve. To apply aloe Vera for burns, simply squeeze the juice out of an aloe Vera plant and apply it to the burn.

  • Eat and take enough water: Always remember that what you take in has a way of affecting you positively or negatively. Take the right thing, I will advise you take enough fruits and kindly take enough water. Food and enough water are needed to help your skin recover from the skin burn and for skin to glow.

  • Sleep: Have enough sleep, your body need enough sleep in order to recover from the sunburn. It might be quite difficult to get some sleep but trust me it will worth the effort.
