If there is one thing we love particularly about weddings, beyond it being a celebration of love and union, it is the vitality and energy that it exudes. And what best way to induce this vitality than through one of the endearing features of a wedding- colours.

Colours fantastically brighten up a wedding. Sometimes, we might focus on objects like the bouquet, the centrepiece, the aisle marker, or the arch. In reality, we are thrilled not so much by the decorative items but by the colours they wear. Imagine all the best decorative wedding items in the world in retro; of course, it loses life.

Without even being conscious of it, we associate certain symbols with colours that often feature in a classic wedding. Below are some of the symbolic colours we align with weddings.

Gold

Gold represents affluence, wealth, prestige, and is quite bourgeoisie. All these interpretations are not missing when gold appears in a wedding. The message is clear.

Have you seen a regular Indian wedding? It drips with and oozes gold. This is not due to bad taste or monotony. The couple is simply associating themselves with this classic symbol of affluence.

Purple

The colour of royalty. It is not surprising that wedding couples would desire to have this colour present in their ceremony. It is the perfect trope that represents the onset of the kingdom they plan to share through their union.

Red

You most likely have an eyebrow raised high at the choice of red in a wedding. In reality, many Asian countries view the colour as symbolic of newness, celebration, and love, as in a Chinese wedding.

Yellow

Yellow can be used to represent a gentle innocence- beautiful and sonorous. It is almost a whisper-light gentleness that sets upon the wedding scene when yellow features as the colour theme. It reminds one of the bloom in spring.

Ivory

Ivory is becoming a thing with weddings, especially as an alternative to the all too popular white. You can’t blame people for wanting something slightly different from the norm. While some might view it as a symbol of stained innocence, that has not stopped people for trying out the refreshing difference in going for ivory instead of white.

White

This has been saved for last for obvious reasons. It is the rampant theme that is accepted and used globally. However, with the wide acceptance, has come a tiring boredom. This is why couples are more accepting of new ideas for colourful themes that transcend the realm of the classic white.
